GNL Quintero

GNL Quintero provides clean, efficient and safe energy to central Chile

Our company plays a fundamental role in the country's energy security.

We receive energy from multiple global sources and deliver it to Chilean homes and industries.

Our Terminal has the best available technology for receiving, storing and regasifying Liquefied Natural Gas.

We work in harmony with the environment, handling one of the cleanest and most efficient energy sources.

We comply with the highest safety standards in the design, construction and operation of our Terminal.

We put our energy to work for the development of Quintero and its people.

GNL Quintero is committed to Sustainability.

Before the natural gas can be consumed by end users, it must pass through a series of processes. It originates in subterranean or submarine natural gas deposits (consisting mainly of methane) in different parts of the world.

The natural gas is extracted from the deposits through wells and is treated in plants to eliminate impurities such as steam, helium and sulphur, separate gases such as ethane, nitrogen and CO2, and extract liquids like propane, butane, pentane and hexane.

The natural gas is then processed in liquefaction plants, which reduce the temperature to -160º Celsius and convert it to the liquid phase. It has now been transformed into Liquefied Natural Gas, with a volume 600 times smaller, and is ready for transport by ship to regasification terminals, such as the GNL Quintero Terminal.

The LNG is transported in liquid form in specially designed ships that keep it at -160° Celsius. When an LNG ship berths in the regasification terminal, the LNG is unloaded using special arms and stored at -160° Celsius in the three onshore tanks.

The LNG is then pumped to the regasification area, where it is vaporized to convert it back into natural gas and injected into the pipeline network to supply residential, commercial, transportation, industrial, petrochemicals and electricity generation customers in central Chile.

Another means used for LNG distribution is in tanker trucks that use the Truck Loading Facility, where the product is loaded into trucks specially designed to transport LNG to areas not served by pipeline, in which case it is regasified locally.

GNL Quintero's challenge is to satisfy market demand in central Chile with a safe, reliable, efficient service.
