A Clean Operation

GNL Quintero has adopted high environmental standards and an on-going commitment to carry out controls to ensure excellence in its operational processes. This forms part of the policy that the company has developed for Health, Safety and the Environment (HSE). See the details of GNL Quintero's Health, Safety and Environment Policy.

The GNL Quintero Terminal works with natural gas, the cleanest, most efficient fossil fuel known; it receives the product in a liquid state and transforms it into a gas, using a process that generates practically no emissions or solid waste.

The main vaporization process by which LNG is transformed into natural gas generates no atmospheric emissions. The back-up vaporization system, which operates in specific situations during maintenance or break-down of the principal system, generates minimal emissions due to the combustion of small volumes of natural gas.

The amount of solid waste generated in the Terminal is also minimal. It is limited to the small quantities of domestic waste from the offices and the canteen, and some industrial waste produced by maintenance work on the mechanical equipment in the Terminal. Our composting and recycling programmes minimise the solid waste generated in the Terminal.

The only liquid waste is the sea water used in the LNG vaporization process. After use, it is returned to the ocean with the addition of a small dose of chlorine to prevent the formation of algae in the vaporizers; it is also slightly cooler. However, it resumes its original characteristics within a radius of less than 100 metres from the discharge point.

GNL Quintero is a responsible company which minimises its impact on the local sector and helps to improve the environment in the areas where its fuel is distributed, contributing actively to the decontamination of the country.
