Quintero, September 8, 2016.-

A ceremony led by municipal and regional authorities and GNL Quintero executives was held to mark the first anniversary of Quintero Vive (Quintero Lives), the platform of urban intervention projects being implemented jointly by the Quintero Municipal Government and GNL Quintero. Its aim is to trigger a point of inflection in the town’s development through the renovation of public spaces and the implementation of initiatives that significantly improve quality of life for its inhabitants.

The renovated Street Market was the place chosen to celebrate this milestone with the Quintero Vive Exhibition at which the initiative’s main projects, including those that have already been implemented and those which it is hoped will be implemented in the medium term, were presented to the community. The event also served as an opportunity for citizen consultation about other projects currently being developed.

Eleven of the more than 20 projects which the initiative currently comprises were presented. A year after its launch, the initiative has achieved 40% completion. Including only those projects that have already been implemented or are underway, it represents an investment of over 10,000 million pesos, contributed by the Quintero Municipal Government, GNL Quintero, government bodies and other companies with operations in the area.

Quintero Vive is the fruit of constructive relations between the authorities, companies in the area and the community in a bid to contribute to the town’s development. Quintero’s Municipal Administrator, Rubén Gutiérrez, indicated that “we are very happy with this platform which has been used for urban planning. There are few towns able to implement projects of this type and, today, we are celebrating in one of the projects that has been implemented, the Street Market. These are shared dreams that bring together the Municipal Government and Council, companies and residents whom we want to make these projects their own.”

Alfonso Salinas, GNL Quintero’s Sustainability Manager, emphasized that “we are very happy with what has been achieved through Quintero Vivo in the year since its official launch. Our dream was to see this master plan, which is being implemented jointly with the Municipal Government, begin to give Quintero a new face and, happily, that has been possible thanks to the projects we have undertaken and the contribution that other companies and institutions have made. We would like to see an ongoing increase in participants and projects so that, together, we can renovate this town and create a real point of inflection in the municipal district’s development.”

The Regional Director of the Technical Cooperation Service (SERCOTEC), Víctor Hugo Fernández, highlighted the contribution of this government agency, indicating that “through the Street Market Development Fund of the government of President Michelle Bachelet, this street market is a model along with 18 other markets in the Region. Here are GNL Quintero, SERVIU, the Municipal Government and SERCOTEC, which arrived through this program for 100 stallholders, improving the roofing with an investment of 20 million pesos.”

Important progress

A year after its launch, Quintero Vive has been able to show important progress.

One of the projects implemented is the remodeling of the Quintero Street Market where a new access plaza was built, roofing was installed and the stalls were improved in a project designed by GNL Quintero and implemented with funding from the Housing and Urban Planning Ministry. A new Coastal Promenade between Quintero and Loncura has also been built in a project, wholly financed by GNL Quintero, that consists in a promenade with a length of over 2 km which, almost a year after its inauguration, has established itself as a meeting place and tourist attraction for the municipal district.

Other projects include the Loncura Civic Center, a facility that local residents have already adopted as their own; the plan for a new Bus Terminal, designed by the Municipal Government and currently out to tender for its construction; the new Luisa Sebire de Cousiño Municipal Park in whose design AES Gener participated and which will be financed by the Environment Ministry; and the remodeling of the former railway station to which Oxiquim, Gasmar and the National Council for Culture and the Arts have contributed and which will soon be inaugurated.

During the Expo Quintero Vive Exhibition, a citizen consultation will take place about two further important initiatives for the town: the installation of new public transport pick-up points, a project financed by the Transport Ministry, and the design of a new Civic Center for Quintero.

At www.quinterovive.cl, the community can learn more about the projects involved, make known their views and vote for those projects they consider most relevant. In this way, Quintero Vive represents a call for commitment to Quintero’s development on the part of all the town.
