• The five companies that participated shared and analyzed their experience in a bid to improve this prevention program based on observation of behavior.

Quintero, October 7, 2016.-

The First Meeting of Facilitators of Behavior-Based Accident Prevention Processes (BAPP) was organized by GNL Quintero, with the support of the Asociación Chilena de Seguridad (ACHS), as a means to share experiences and best practices as regards this approach to safety.

Four other companies - CAP, CMPC, EKA Chile and Laboratorio Fresenius-Kabi Chile - participated in the Meeting held at the GNL Quintero Terminal. Along with GNL Quintero, they reported on their work using the BAPP Program, a risk prevention program based on employees’ mutual observation of their conduct as regards safety in order to identify safe-risky behaviors and take measures to address them.

Alfonso Salinas, GNL Quintero’s Sustainability Manager, pointed out that “observation of behavior is a very powerful risk prevention tool and is widely used by the best companies internationally. That is why we began to implement BAPP in 2012, with the support of ACHS. Given our experience since then, we felt it was timely to seek to create an opportunity to share it with other companies that also use the program as happens in the United States and other countries. In this first meeting, we were all able to share our common challenges and positive results as well as our mistakes so as to help us make the most of this powerful tool.”

The day concluded with a plenary meeting which analyzed the lessons learned and the challenges for improving BAPP management in key areas such as boosting feedback, maintaining the program’s quality in a sustainable manner, integrating this process into management systems and the use of data and behaviors by risk level.

Since GNL Quintero began to implement BAPP in 2012, it has achieved consolidation as a long-term program, with a methodology validated by employees whose observations have helped year by year to reinforce the company’s safety culture.
