Quintero, November 24, 2015.-

A great party of which local residents were the main protagonists marked the inauguration of the Coastal Promenade between Quintero and Loncura which was opened as part of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Quintero's designation as a Major Port.

The opening ceremony was attended by Pablo Badenier, Minister for the Environment; Omar Jara, Governor of Valparaíso; Mauricio Carrasco, Mayor of Quintero; and Antonio Bacigalupo, General Manager of GNL Quintero, accompanied by regional authorities, members of Congress and local residents.

The most important infrastructure project of recent decades, the Promenade connects the Quintero peninsula with the town of Loncura. With a length of over two kilometers, it was built to the highest design and architectural standards, taking into account the community's needs. It is equipped with a bike path, LED lighting, underground cabling and green areas with native species and automatic watering as well as high-standard recreational facilities such as a skate park and playgrounds. GNL Quintero invested over US$6.5 million to the build the Promenade that is on a par with the best cities in the country.

GNL Quintero's General Manager, Antonio Bacigalupo, indicated that "the inauguration of the Coastal Promenade represents the fulfillment of a great dream for our company. From the start, we set a challenging goal: to create infrastructure that would mean real development for the town and its surrounding area. And today we see how, after several years of joint work, people are beginning to make it theirs. This Promenade is proof of what can be achieved by companies, the authorities and local residents working together when their shared goal is development. As Quintero celebrates 150 years since its designation as a Major Port, we see the new Coastal Promenade as the symbol of a promising future for this important town."

Quintero's Mayor, Mauricio Carrasco, added that "we are very happy with this progress, it is the biggest public infrastructure investment of recent decades and will be followed by other investments in infrastructure. This Coastal Promenade will, without doubt, be a tourist attraction."

According to Pablo Badenier, Minister for the Environment, "this is not just a compensation measure established in an Environmental Impact Study, it is a very significant project for Quintero, developed to high standards and with an important level of participation, and is an example for other companies to follow."

The Coastal Promenade is part of the Quintero Vive (Quintero Lives) program, a platform of urban intervention projects developed together with Quintero's municipal government in order to renovate the town and improve its inhabitants' quality of life, thereby contributing to a sustainable future for Quintero.

The program also includes other projects such as the remodeling of the Quintero Street Market, financed by the Housing Ministry, which will also be inaugurated soon, and the new Bus Terminal, a project being implemented by the municipal government.

Thanks to the Quintero Vive program, the Chilean-North American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) awarded GNL Quintero its 2015 Good Corporate Citizenship Prize, one of the industry's most important awards for social responsibility.
